There could be bad news ahead for coffee lovers as consumers who purchased the popular pick me up drink could be forced to pay extra at their local cafe.
It is understood consumers could be forced to pay an extra 15c for a cup of coffee under new proposals mooted by the Minister for the Environment Dennis Naughten.
The coffee hike which will surely not go down well with consumers is being introduced in order to tackle wastage which is produced by plastic cups.
Speaking about the proposal Minister Naughten said the measures must be introduced in order to make not only consumers but cafe’s more environmentally aware.
He added we as a nation must address these issues sooner rather than later as we disregard 80% of items after a single use.
