Col. Tom Moore will receive a knighthood following his efforts to raise money for the NHS.
The centenarian World War 2 veteran had aimed to raise £1,000 by walking laps around the garden in his Bedfordshire home, but ended up raising a mammoth £33m after capturing the nation’s spirit, sparking a flood of donations.
Moore saw action in Burma and elsewhere during the war, before returning home to work as an instructor at the Armoured Fighting Vehicle School in Bovington, Dorset.
