Committee reviews legislation that will change social welfare benefits for Ukrainians recently arrived in the country




This morning, a committee of the Oireachtas received legislation from Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys that would reduce the monthly assistance benefits given to recently arrived immigrants from Ukraine.

According to RTE, it is anticipated that the legislation lowering the weekly payouts from €232 to €38.80 will take effect in a few weeks.

The duration of residence in state housing for newly arrived Ukrainians will likewise be capped at ninety days by the revisions.

RTE stated that Ms. Humphreys reported to the Social Protection Committee that several adjustments had been proposed.

Cabinet passed the law to lessen the support for newly arrived Ukrainians earlier last month.
