Communications company Eir issue warning to customers about email phishing scam

One of the country’s biggest Communications companies Eir (formally Eircom) have issued a warning to its customers this afternoon to be extra vigilant of a new ‘phishing’ email scam.

The company issued the warning earlier today after thousands of costumers received an email, which displays the Eir logo, telling them that they were entitled to a refund. Eir are advising its customers to delete the email and not to click on any links contained within.

It is understood this latest email tells customers they are entitled to a refund of €103.58 and asks them to login to their My Eir account by clicking on a link within. However the fraudulent link then takes the unaware customer to a page identical to the Eir customer page. The page then asks customers to select their bank and their credit/debit card details.

An Eir spokeswoman released a statement regarding the scam earlier which reads: “We are aware of a phishing email that is currently being received by Eir customers and other members of the public today.” “Delete the email message immediately and never click on web links contained within such messages or download content associated with the message.
