Companies and suppliers are being advised to be watchful of an ‘invoice redirect’ scam currently doing the rounds in Ireland.
The scam involves an individual emailing, phoning, or otherwise making contact with a company posing as one of their legitimate suppliers, crafting a request to change bank details to that of accounts controlled by the scammers.
When the legitimate supplier asks for payment, the funds are deposited in the wrong account, falling directly into the scammer’s hands.
Businesses are strongly encouraged to always double-check with their suppliers when a potentially sensitive change is requested on their behalf.
