The news of a third passenger on board the Diamond Princess cruise liner dying from the coronavirus emerges as a number of Italian towns are put on basic martial law lockdown with residents in the northern regions of Lombardy and Veneto being put on complete lockdown, after the number of coronavirus cases there rose rapidly over the weekend.
It is understood that no fewer than 130 people have tested positive for the virus, and three people have already died from the disease.
Schools, cinemas, and public buildings have been closed, and even a number of events in the Venice Carnival have been cancelled.
The death on the Diamon Princess, officially registered as ‘pneumonia’, follows the passing of two other people in their 80s on Thursday.
Over 600 cases of coronavirus were confirmed on board the ship.
