Concerns raised as instances of ‘dognapping’ have risen by about 50% across Ireland over the last 24 months

People are being warned up and down the country to ensure that their dogs are safely locked away from thieves preying on them.

The instances of ‘dognapping’ have risen by about 50% across Ireland over the last 24 months.

Official figures say that there were 210 reported instances in 2019, with 120 reported this year so far.

Gardai believe that the true figures could be higher, as dog disappearances are not always categorized as ‘theft.’
