The news Conor McGregor and every UFC fan was waiting for was confirmed earlier today as it was revealed ‘The Notorious’ will take on Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight championship at UFC 205 on Nov. 12 in Madison Square Garden New York.
The news of the highly anticipated match up was announced by UFC officials late last night. The fight will mark history for the UFC as it is MMA’s first trip to New York since a 1997, when a ban on professional mixed martial arts was lifted earlier this year.
McGregor will aim to become a dual champion in the Big Apple aa he already holds the featherweight title after defeating Jose Aldo Jnr last December in just under 13 seconds.
Speaking about the historic fight UFC chief Dana White said: “This is the fight the fans wanted, and I’m excited that our very first event at Madison Square Garden will be headlined by Eddie Alvarez defending the lightweight title against Conor McGregor,” White told ESPN. “This card has three world title fights and is the best card in UFC history.”
