The news every UFC and Conor McGregor fan has been waiting for was confirmed last night when UFC chiefs confirmed that ‘The Notorious’ will once again go toe to toe with Nate Diaz on July 9th in Las Vegas.
The news comes after weeks of speculation which claimed that the Dublin native will once again take on Diaz at UFC 200. Although many in the UFC world believe McGregor should drop back to his featherweight division because he struggled against Diaz when he was 35lbs heavier, a fact McGregor himself noted when he was beaten earlier this month.
It was widely believed that McGregor was seriously considering dropping back down to the featherweight division for a possible re-match with Jose Aldo, who he beat within 13 seconds last December, to become UFC Featherweight Champion.
However he has instead taken another chance to prove if he can win in the higher weight category by taking on Diaz this July. The move may be a courageous one but many believe McGregor will have a better shot next time around given the fact he is already at 170lbs, with some saying he would not have to go through such a rigorous weight gain routine in a short space of time compared to the three months he was given to make the weight category for his first bout with Diaz.
