Conor McGregor ‘stands his ground’ as he continues his quest to become President targeting the government as ‘soulless, colourless gombeens’

Conor McGregor remains defiant in his public feud with the Irish government, reiterating his claim that he will run for Áras an Uachtaráin, reports The Mirror.

The MMA fighter has once again criticized politicians on social media, just a week after meeting former U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House.

McGregor used his meeting with Trump as an opportunity to launch an attack on Irish politicians, particularly targeting Taoiseach Micheál Martin and his government’s policies on immigration and public safety, reports The Mirror.

He claimed that “Ireland is on the cusp of losing its Irishness” and accused the government of overseeing an “illegal immigration racket” that was “running ravage on the country.” He further described the administration as one of “zero action with zero accountability.”

His remarks have been widely condemned by Ireland’s top government officials. In response, Mr. Martin stated that McGregor does not speak for Ireland and emphasized that the government consists of elected representatives.

“As far as the government is concerned – it’s an elected government, by the way – and we’re very focused on increasing the policing in the public order capacity. But I don’t take too much note of his criticism other than to say that he does not speak for for the Irish people in any shape or form,” reports The Mirror.

“And we will continue to work in Dail Eireann and in engaging with the opposition in Dail Eireann who are elected also. And we will engage in terms of the best policies to develop for this country into the future,” reports The Mirror.

Despite the backlash, McGregor continued his criticism in a new social media post. However, his comments once again suggested a misunderstanding of the role and powers of the Irish Presidency.

He wrote: “For the people of the Ireland, I stand my ground! May our truth never be silenced! The fact is, if there is 7 years of zero resistance inside Áras an Úachtarain towards government, Ireland is done for. Magnify where we are right now today, x7000! I would prefer to sail my yachts than have to approach the soulless, colourless gombeens of Dáil Éireann everyday, but if I do not, I am well aware Ireland’s faith. AND I WILL NEVER LET THAT HAPPEN!! Vote McGregor! The future of our country depends on it,” reports The Mirror.
