Construction work has officially got underway on Dublin’s controversial €600 million Poolbeg incinerator project this morning. However the project will surely come under further scrutiny as further protests against the proposed incinerator will begin tomorrow, it is understood that a group of protesters will march on the dail to voice their disapproval.
Planning permission for the controversial incinerator was granted several years ago, but the project has been blocked on numerous occasions by legal action, financial trouble and political opposition.
It is believed that waste processing could be fully operational by late 2017. Although building work on the project could yet again be halted as it is understood that those who oppose it are planning further legal action, as they believe that the plant is in breach of planning laws.
