Controversy outside the Dáil as water protester attempts to punch leading Fianna Fáil TD

There was some nasty scenes outside the Dáil this afternoon as a leading Fianna Fáil TD had a punch thrown at him.

The shocking incident occurred when
Transport spokesperson Timmy Dooley was returning to the Dáil today. Reports say the attack occurred at approximately midday this afternoon when the Clare TD was approached on Molesworth Street directly outside the gates of Leinster House, where a water protest was taking place. It is believed a man grabbed Mr Dooley’s tie and attempted to punch the politician, before he was halted in his tracks Dooley’s party colleague Billy Kelleher.

However Mr Dooley has since played down the incident saying what happened was minor and was nothing to worry about. Meanwhile Mr Kelleher told reporters what happened was “nothing major, just one person who was very threatening”. “I intervened in a gentle manner to diffuse the situation,” he said.
