Cork city centre will be free of private vehicles during peak traffic hours

Cork City Council will soon introduce new measures to ensure that St. Patrick St., one of Cork’s main thoroughfares, remains free of private cars during peak traffic hours.

The initiative is aimed at reducing traffic congestion and promote the use of public transport, according to local officials.

A similar proposal was rejected last year, but there seems to have been a change of heart at the council, as private cars will not be allowed down St. Patrick Street between 3pm and 6.30pm from Monday to Saturday.

If successful, other cities may introduce similar measures.
