RTE reports today that about 140,000 workers have been temporarily laid off because of the ongoing health crisis.
These include tens of thousands of hospitality and childcare staff across the country.
Those laid off workers have been encouraged to avoid visiting their local Intreo centers due to ‘social distancing’ rules and the possibility of very long queues. Instead, they can apply for subsidies online.
Ireland has officially reported 169 cases of COVID-19, with 2 deaths so far.
