Gardai are questioning an Irish man in relation to an alleged €1.5m Covid-19 as part of a €15 million international scam.
The suspect is believed to have acted as ‘middle man’, holding a substantial amount of money in an Irish account. This money had been furnished by a German health authority after scammers allegedly requested an upfront payment for the sale of face masks.
The money, which was ultimately destined for a bank account in Nigeria, is currently frozen, and the suspect remains in police custody.
It’s understood that the man is based in Co Roscommon.
