Jay Benedict as Russ Jordan in Aliens (1986) – Fox
Jay Benedict, the actor who played Russ Jordan -Newt’s father- in Aliens (1986), has sadly passed away from Covid-19-related causes.
Benedict’s segment in the smash-hit sci-fi action film was actually cut from its theatrical release, but the importance of his role was made evident in the movie’s Special Edition, first released in 1991.
Jordan, a prospector working at the Hadley’s Hope colony on LV-426, enters a derelict spacecraft upon receiving orders from the treacherous Carter Burke, a Weyland Yutani rep. The spacecraft, which contains a cargo of Alien eggs, becomes the source of the original infection. A face-hugger attaches itself to Jordan, turning him into the ‘patient zero’ for the alien outbreak at Hadley’s Hope, thus triggering the Marines response and the events portrayed in the theatrical version of Aliens.
Benedict, who also starred as Doug Hamilton in Emmerdale and had roles in Downton Abbey and The Dark Knight Rises (2012), passed away from Covid-19 complications on April 4th, aged 68.
