An estimated 283,000 people will receive their first Covid-19 welfare payment today, but as many as 15,000 others had their applications rejected.
Reasons given for the refusals range from the purely typographic to not meeting eligibility criteria for a variety of reasons.
It is understood that department officials will contact people whose applications were rejected for typographic issues over the next few days.
