A top Chinese government official has claimed that the coronavirus was brought into China by the United States.
This is just one of the many conspiracy theories currently circulating around the world about the coronavirus outbreak.
The official, named as Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian, used Twitter to re-distribute footage portraying Robert Redfield -the director of the CDC- addressing a number of people on March 11.
In the footage, Mr. Redfield is heard saying that some people who died from a ‘flu-like’ disease in the US were later confirmed to have been infected with coronavirus.
The CDC director did not specify when these patients were diagnosed or when they died, fuelling Lijian’s opinion that the US has something to hide. And as it so happens, hundreds of American athletes were present in Wuhan in October of last year as part of a military competition.
The coronavirus, whose first case was officially reported in Wuhan, has so far infected over 125,000 people worldwide.
