Coronavirus: Traditional shamrock giving ceremony in the White House will not go ahead this year due to coronavirus concerns

The traditional shamrock giving ceremony in the White House will not go ahead this year due to coronavirus concerns.

The ceremony usually involves a large crowd of people being present in the building’s ballroom while the Irish Taoiseach makes the symbolic offering, but US President Donald Trump, who is a notorious germaphobe, has moved to ban the event due to ‘an abundance of caution.’

Mr. Trump has now issued a travel ban from all countries in the Schengen area, effective from Friday. The US President’s unilateral decision has been fiercely criticized by European leaders as they were not consulted about it.
