Coronavirus: US Senate passes Trump’s $2 trillion stimulus and air package for the US economy and citizens with calls for similar measures in Ireland

The United States Senate has unanimously passed an emergency relief bill for US citizens and businesses in response to the Coronavirus, which has had a devastating effect on the American and global economy, with calls for similar drastic measures in Ireland the EU.

The Senate passed H.R. 748, the CARES Act, with 96 votes in favour of the bill and no senators opposed to the legislation, which will come as a relief to President Trump, who has been pushing for this bill but predictably met with obstructionism from the democrats.

Democrats had attempted to force abortion funding and overseas aid increases into the 880 page bill as well new regulations on airlines meant to reduce carbon emissions.

The Senate Cares Act is set to provide most Americans $1,200 per individual, $500 for most children, and will establish a several hundred-billion-dollar lending aid program for small businesses, cities and states.

With the Irish economy expected to shrink considerably, as much as 7% according to some analysts, there are growing calls for a similar stimulus package here.
