Chinese Coronavirus test kits acquired by Spain do not work properly, some officials claim

The Spanish government purchased 650,000 Coronavirus test kits form China, where the virus originated, but has reported that they do not work well according to El Pais

According to the Spanish periodical the tests acquired by the Government have a sensitivity of just 30% when they should exceed 80% to ensure they are not giving a false positive or negative reading.

Madrid bought the tests from China to begin testing broader swathes of the country’s population but to the dismay of health officials quickly found them to be deficient and fear now they may actually worsen the crisis as some, who are infected, were determined not to be and are now spreading the disease.

The failure of the Chinese test kits has been confirmed by several microbiology laboratories of large hospitals across Spain.

Speaking to El Pais a source said, “They do not detect the positive cases as expected,”.

Spain is one the hardest hit countries in the world by the Chinese virus with at least 45,000 confirmed cases as of Thursday and over 4,000 dead.
