A couple living in New York could face up to 25 years behind bars, after they were arrested and charged with first degree assault on their 3 year old son.
In what has been described by police as the worst case ever of child abuse, the pair Donald Bovio and Alison Bovio, were taken into police custody after their little boy was left in a coma following an apparent beating.
The couple who are currently being detained by Seneca Falls Police, are accused of savagely beating their young son so badly that his injuries have left him with no brain activity.
Although police responded to report of a young boy being badly injured after he fell down a flight of stairs, officers investigating the case which occurred at an apartment in Peterman Road in Seneca Falls on Saturday afternoon, soon uncovered that the young infant had recieved extensive injuries that were inconsistent with a fall.
Following a review by medical personnel, police arrested the couple after it was determined that the boy recieved the vast majority of his horrific injuries before the fall.
Both parents who deny the abuse charges, reportedly contacted emergency services after the young boy fell down a flight of stairs and hit his head on the kitchen floor.
Speaking about the case an officer for Seneca Falls police spokesman, said the case was the worst form of child abuse that he has ever seen.
They also said the boy currently remains in critical and life threatening condition in hospital.
It is understood both parents who are on $50,000 or $100,000 bond, will face a lengthy prison sentence if they are found guilty.
