A sign measuring more than 300 feet in height that simply says NO has been constructed on the side of the famous Ben Bulben mountain in Co. Sligo.
It’s understood that pro life groups in the area got together, constructed the sign and had it up onto the side of the mountain overnight on Thursday morning.
The sign is a direct canvass about next Friday’s abortion referendum where people will be asked if they agree with abortion for reason whatsoever up to 12 weeks or not.
Currently, the Eighth Amendment is the only protection unborn Irish babies have from abortion with the proposed referendum being pushed hard by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and 31-yr-old Minister for Health Simon Harris.
If the Eighth Amendment is repealed it means that abortion would be permissible for any reason whatsoever up to 12 weeks.
One pro life campaigner said that “we will not stand for abortion, we will do everything to stop it and we are getting a great response from the community and beyond about the sign”.
