Couple involved in Holles Street abortion case call on the Health Minister to set up an independent inquiry

A couple at the centre of an abortion case at Holles Street Hospital, have called for an independent inquiry.

According to RTÉ News, the couple at the centre of the case have called on the Minister for Health Simon Harris to establish a review of their case in order to see if any other such cases have occurred.

RTÉ News say the request was made after the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, said it carry out a review.

The latest developments come after a baby was aborted in March after it was misdiagnosed as having a “fatal, foetal abnormality”.

It is believed that the baby was aborted following a series of three key genetic tests, however the third test, a high-level cell culture which looks at chromosomes was sent abroad for analysis.

The results, which determined the baby did not have the genetic disorder ‘Trisomy18’ only came back after the baby had been aborted under the advice of doctors.
