A courageous Catholic priest in Cavan who has refused to halt saying Mass for his parishioners despite the government’s Orwellian measures, ostensibly introduced to halt the spread of the Chinese virus has said he will also visit family for Christmas.
Fr PJ Hughes has compared the government’s draconian measures to shut down churches and ban public masses to the Penal Laws introduced by the British occupation in Ireland, which were restrictions of the practice of the Catholic faith and the demotion of Catholics to third class citizens.
Gardai spoke to Fr Hughes after he said Mass in his church in Mullahoran, Co Cavan, last Sunday, but the shepherd, who exhibits true supernatural faith, was not intimidated and has stated he will continue to say mass.
The stance of Fr Hughes stands in contrast to many other priests, and in particular, bishops in the country who have subserviently bowed to government dictates to halt public masses and other religious celebrations.
At present no members of the public are permitted to attend Mass under the government’s Level 5 restrictions, which are supposed to be loosened on December 1st, but there has already been talk of extending some of the Draconian measures.
