An Australian appeals court has overturned the conviction of a woman who spent 20 years in prison for killing her four children, reports Breaking News.

Kathleen Folbigg, 56, was released from prison in June after the New South Wales state government ordered a pardon following new scientific evidence that her four children may have died of natural causes.

The pardon was seen as the quickest way to get her out of jail before the New South Wales Court of Appeal could consider overturning her conviction before investigating new evidence.

The courtroom erupted in applause and Ms Folbig wept as Chief Justice Andrew Bell found her not guilty of three counts of murder and one count of murder.

He said: “While the verdicts at trial were reasonably open on the evidence available, there is now reasonable doubt as to Ms Folbigg’s guilt. It is appropriate Ms Folbigg’s convictions be quashed,” reports Breaking News.
