The truth is that nobody really knows. He said that today there’s 24 cases but that they expect to dramatically increase.

The Cabinet meeting is prepare for what could happen in a dramatic way for two weeks, three weeks or two months time.

Coveney said that they just don’t know but they’re in a containment phase right now that it’s trying to limit the number of people who get it in Ireland. He said that the HSE is working with everyone who has tested positive in an effort to stop the spreading.

Inevitable, he said, the government is going to have to move to a delay phase once it gets bad because it’s a concern that we have community-transmitted cases. We need to slow it down to give the health service a chance to deal with it.

Coveney said that up to 1.9 million people could get coronavirus in Ireland.
