Coveney: Sinn Fein’s St Patrick’s banner is “offensive, divisive and an embarrassment”

Sinn Fein have been slammed by the Tanaiste Simon Coveney after the posted a photo on social media of a controversial photo with Sinn Fein leader May Lou McDonald in it.

McDonald was heavily criticised by Coveney after she was photographed in with a banner reading ‘England get out of Ireland’.

Ms McDonald was photographed with the banner during the St Patrick’s Day parade on Saturday afternoon in New York.

According to the BBC, Simon Coveney described the banner as “offensive, divisive and an embarrassment”.

The leaders of the SDLP, Alliance and the UUP also criticised Ms McDonald.

The photo was posted on Twitter by Sinn Féin’s official account along with the caption “no explanation needed”.
