A widely available £5 steroid has been found to significantly reduce the risk of death in Covid-19 patients.
The medication in question, dexamethasone, has been in use for over six decades, and has now been proven to reduce death rates by a third for patients on ventilators, and by a fifth for patients needing oxygen. If this discovery had been made earlier in the pandemic, thousands of lives could have been saved.
The discovery has been deemed to be a major breakthrough in the fight against coronavirus.
