An elderly woman has died following a ‘double variant’ infection in Belgium.
It is understood that the 90-year-old woman tested positive both for the Alpha (UK) and Beta (South Africa) strains.
The patient passed away shortly afterwards.
This is the first known case of human death following infection with two different strains of coronavirus.
