Covid-19: British scientist warns that UK could be facing up to 200,000 new infections a day at the peak of the third coronavirus wave

A British scientist is warning that the UK could be facing up to 200,000 new infections a day at the peak of the third coronavirus wave.

According to Professor Neil Ferguson, a conservative projection indicates around 100,000 new daily cases by late August-early September is ‘inevitable’ due to the Government’s strategy of lifting lockdown as the Delta variant spreads.

But worst-case scenario could see the country experiencing upwards of 200,000 daily cases, which could spell disaster for the UK’s health system.
