Covid-19: Chief Medical Officer says that ‘schools should not be fast-tracked for reopening’, following controversial comments by the caretaker Taoiseach

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tony Holohan has said this evening that ‘schools should not be fast-tracked for reopening.’

The medical expert appeared to be addressing some controversial comments made by caretaker Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, who had earlier appeared to suggest that schools should reopen soon because children are not believed to be ‘super-spreaders.’

Mr. Varadkar’s somewhat unwise comments have created fierce backlash among experts, who rightly believe that it’s way too early to even consider letting children back into crowded classrooms.

Ireland’s Chief Medical Officer then pointed out that he does not envisage schools to return until September at the earliest.
