The Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has said that 70% of the 365 new Covid-19 cases confirmed over the past 24 hours are the Delta variant.
Speaking following the announcment of the cases, Dr Holohan said the variant still continues to be a present threat.
Dr Holohan also said that although those who are fully vaccinated can feel safe meeting with other, those who are still at risk.
The Chief Medical Officer warned that those who are not fully vaccinated should avoid meeting in large groups and continue to follow public health advice.
He added that those who are waiting on a vaccine should take it when it’s offered to them.
