There are grave concerns this evening about the resurgence of the coronavirus in Europe, as the R number has risen to 1.79 in Germany.
The R number indicates the reproduction rate of the virus. Anything above one is bad news, but 1.79 is particularly concerning as infections can begin to grow exponentially again.
The latest outbreak in Germany was detected at a slaughterhouse that employs over 1,000 people. Hundreds of workers there have already tested positive.
