Covid-19: Decision pending on whether or not to use the Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca vaccines for under 50s in Ireland

The Government has not yet made a decision about whether or not to use the Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca vaccines for under 50s in Ireland.

Both vaccines have been linked to serious side effects and have been banned in Denmark, for instance, as it was determined that the potential benefits did not outweigh the risks.

The AstraZeneca jab, for example, was first linked to blood clotting events that led to some deaths, and has now been associated with the emergence of cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS), a potentially life-threatening side effect.
