Covid-19 divide: Young people feel they are being unfairly blamed whilst the elderly feel they’re being unfairly targeted

Today has seen a new wave of Covid-19 restrictions being introduced in order to protect public safety and although the vast majority of the public are onboard to do whatever they can to beat the virus, it seems that the latest restrictions has caused somewhat of a backlash from both older and younger people as both groups feel they are being unfairly targeted.

The feeling of being unfairly targeted has led to both age demographics to voice their concerns of the past 24 hours with many younger people taking to social media to voice their opinions, whilst advocacy groups have voiced concerns on behalf of those over the age of 70.

With the Government and NPHET remaining committed to tackling the virus head on by introducing further restrictions and guidelines for all age groups many people say they have been left puzzled by the mixed messages sent out by Government ministers and medical professionals on Tuesday.

The latest developments which will look to change the shape of how the virus is contained, has led to many young people to take to social media to voice their opinions and feelings as to why they in particular have seemingly being targeted for contributing to the rise in cases in recent weeks even though the vast majority say they have been nothing but compliant over the past six months.

Many in the younger demographic have stated that they have followed Government guidelines and adhered to social distancing measures and maintained proper hygiene protocols by regularly wearing face masks and using hand sanitizers whilst visiting shops, restaurants, other establishments and using public transport.

Whilst many have also stated that they have greatly limited their social activities by not visiting friends or attending any social gatherings let alone any house parties amid fears of catching or spreading the virus.

Meanwhile advocacy groups representing elderly people over the age of 70 have stated that the latest Government measures have unfairly targeted older people who have sacrificed so much already during this pandemic.

Many older people feel that they are being unfairly targeted by being told to limit their time outdoors and social interactions with others.

Advocacy groups also say that many older people are paying the cost for the thoughtless actions of others.
