Netherlands is to go into an immediate lockdown in a desperate attempt to curtail the spread of the Omicron variant.
From Sunday, December 19, all non-essential shops, bars, restaurants, etc. will close until January 14th at least. Schools will also close until January 9th.
Notably, over 85% of people in the Netherlands are vaccinated, but it is unclear if this has had any impact whatsoever.
