New viral strain now has now spread across most parts of the UK, but health authorities have confirmed that Northern Ireland has so far been spared.
The new strain, known as VUI-202012/01, is reportedly up to 70% more transmissible, but it does appear to cause increased mortality.
Many European countries have already banned passenger flights from Britain.
