No new entrants to the pandemic unemployment payment scheme (PUP) will be allowed from today, it emerged this morning.
This contrasts starkly with the rules for the Government, whose ministers had ironclad guarantees that their pay would not be cut during the pandemic.
Most coronavirus-related restrictions were lifted overnight, even though nothing has fundamentally changed, which would suggest that it was all smoke and mirrors to test the island (and the world at large) population’s degree of compliance. Such level turned out to be shockingly and shamefully high, with the ‘fighting Irish’ spirit ‘vaccinated’ into a bygone and hollowed buzzword.
