Opposition parties are today calling for schools to remain closed until mid-January at least, to prevent further spread of Covid-19.
As it stands, most schools will close either tomorrow, Friday, or on Tuesday December 22nd, and reopen in early January.
The National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) is to meet today to discuss a rapid deterioration in the Covid-19 situation across Ireland over the last few days.
