The UK has raised its ‘Covid alert’ status to 4, the second-highest on the scale.
According to health authorities, the move follows a dramatic increase in cases involving the Omicron strain and the realization that vaccines are largely ineffective against this new variant. In other words, vaccination counts for nought.
Level 4 means that transmission of the virus is either high or rising exponentially.
