A Covid-19 testing centre has been burned to the ground and hundreds are arrested after the announcement of a curfew on top of an already stringent lockdown sparked riots in the Netherlands.

Almost a dozen police officers were injured in the worst social disturbances to hit Holland in over 40 years which spread across the land of the tulips following the government’s imposition of a curfew from 9pm to 4.30am in the first of its kind since World War Two.

Dutch police chief Henk van Essen strongly condemned the rioters, saying: “it has nothing to do any longer with the right to demonstrate” while the Dutch government, already on the brink of collapse over a child benefit scandal.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mark Rutte, has said that rioters will be dealt with to the full extent of the law.
