Revenue and Customs have confirmed that they have seized 7.2m cigarettes at Dublin Port.
It is understood the cigarettes which were valued at €4m were discovered during a routine search on Wednesday afternoon.
Customs officials say the large shipment which would have resulted in a €3.2m loss to the exchequer, arrived from Rotherham.
They added that an investigation is currently ongoing.
