Thousands of single parents will see their payments reduced by up to €86, depending on individual circumstances.
The Tanaiste has today confirmed that this cuts will happen on July 2 as previously announced, but also said that there may be “some good news” on the upcoming budget.
The savage cuts mean that around 6,400 people will lose up to €36.50 per week and 4,500 will miss out on €57 per week.
Also, the controversial proposals will reduce the maximum age that the One Parent Family Payment can be claimed reduced from 17 to 7.
According to Ms. Burton, the cuts are aimed at getting people out of welfare dependency and into work.
Last week, hundreds of parents gathered to protest outside Leinster House to call for the reversal of the cuts, but this seems to have fallen on deaf ears.
