Cynical PR manoeuvres: Martin blasts Government over its handling of the nurses’ strike action

Fianna Fáil leader Mícheál Martin has criticised the Taoiseach and the Government over their handling of the current nurse’s strike action.

In a scathing attack in the Dáil on Tuesday, Mr Martin accused the Government of employing cynical PR manoeuvres in an attempt to resolve the ongoing dispute.

Mr Martin who also claimed that the 11th hour approach to the ongoing crisis was unacceptable and completely disrespectful to the nursing unions involved.

It is understood that Mr Martin’s comments came after the Minister for Health Simon Harris and the Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe released a statement on Monday, claiming that they had invited the INMO to talks about staff shortages and conditions.

However it was later revealed that the INMO had only heard about such an invitation through the media.

Although the Taoiseach claimed that the offer was sincere, Mr Martin said that it was an appalling attempt by the Government in order to be seen doing something.

He also said that the Government’s current handling of the situation is now way to resolve the ongoing dispute.
