A court heard that the late Hunter Molloy’s father had been freed from jail on humanitarian grounds, reports The Mirror.
In Ennis Circuit Court, Patrick Whyms BL (as directed by attorney Daragh Hassett) informed the court that Peter Molloy was released from jail this week on compassionate grounds following the loss of his young child. Molloy is currently on bail.
Mr. Molloy, 22, of the Ballaghboy Halting Site on Quin Road in Ennis, was being held in jail pending a circuit court trial.
It is thought that on Wednesday, shortly after Hunter’s death was officially declared at University Hospital Limerick (UHL), the Prison Service approved Mr. Molloy’s release, reports The Mirror.
Prior to Wednesday lunchtime, Hunter passed away from injuries he had received in a car collision at the Ballaghboy halting site. Three charges—among them endangerment—are being brought against Peter Molloy in connection with an incident that happened on Watery Road in Ennis on November 18, 2023.
Judge Vincent Deane of the Ennis District Court granted Hunter’s uncle, Michael Molloy (30), his release from detention today due to compassionate reasons at a different Ennis court, reports The Mirror.
