After a terrible tragedy at his house last week, a Cork father of two is facing a protracted and difficult road to recovery. On Saturday, January 4, outside his Ballydehob house, Mark Moriyama was crushed by his own automobile as it rolled back and slammed him against a concrete wall, reports The Mirror.

The automobile abruptly shifted as Mark was shutting the boot, crushing him and leaving him with a punctured lung and shattered ribs. He was put in an induced coma after being transported to Cork University Hospital, where medical professionals found that both of his lungs had collapsed.

Mark was able to squeeze the hand of his cherished wife, Aoife, after a few days in critical care, reports The Mirror.

In order to lessen their financial burden while Mark heals, the local community has come together in support of Mark and his family, raising thousands of euros. According to Mark’s friend Isaac Finken, he was a “fantastic husband” to Aoife and a devoted father to their two young children, Luca, who is nine months old, and Elayna, who is three years old. Mark is “perhaps the most vibrant, active, and fit person I’ve ever had the luck to meet,” he revealed.

While they share a passion for gymnastics, stunts, and martial arts, Isaac clarified that Mark is “at his most playful when on the floor with his two adorable children,” reports The Mirror.

Mark’s rehabilitation will mostly depend on his mental and physical health, according to Isaac, who also added: “His wicked sense of humour and kind, fun, youthful personality have made a positive impact on everyone he’s met.” He is extremely physically and psychologically healthy, and I am confident that this will help him get through this challenging period.

He stated that since Mark works as a freelance wedding videographer, his recuperation would take more than ten months, and the family is under a lot of financial strain.

Isaac explained: “Mark was involved in a terrible accident. He was shutting the boot of his car when the auto brakes released and the car rolled back, pushing Mark backwards and crushing him into a concrete wall just outside their house… Mark’s entire right rib cage was smashed, his lung was punctured,” reports The Mirror.

“Owing to the quick actions of his wife Aoife, he was airlifted from Ballydehob Community Hall pitch, to CUH, where both lungs collapsed and he was put into an induced coma. Thankfully and owing to the excellent medical care he received, Mark squeezed Aoife’s hand 3 days ago and then yesterday, he managed to wake up. The good news is, that Mark will be ok, we all know it could have been much worse, but doctors have advised a long road to recovery for Mark of more than 10 months,” reports The Mirror.
