As the conflict reached its third year, President Volodymyr Zelensky pledged that Ukraine will overcome Russia.

Alongside him was Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, Prime Ministers of Italy, Belgium’s Alexander De Croo, and the European Union’s Ursula von der Leyen, who was in Kiev to commemorate two years since Russia’s invasion.

“We have been fighting for this for 730 days of our lives. We will win on the best day of our lives,” Mr Zelensky told an open-air anniversary event, attended by some Western leaders at Kyiv’s Gostomel airport, targeted by Russia in the first days of its invasion,” reports RTE.

“Any normal person wants the war to end. But none of us will allow Ukraine to end,” Mr Zelensky said, stressing that the war must end “on our terms”, with a “just” peace.

At a ceremony at the airport in Kyiv called Gostomel, which Russia had targeted in the early days of its invasion, Mr. Zelensky embraced the leaders and gave medals to the soldiers.

“Two years ago, we met the enemy landing force here with fire; two years later, we meet our friends and partners here,” the president said, reports RTE.
