Following a drowning event in the Indonesian region of Bali, a 25-year-old Irish man passed away, reports RTE.

Only a few weeks ago, Val Brooks from Kiltealy, County Wexford, immigrated to Australia. When the event occurred earlier this week, he was vacationing in Bali with pals.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has acknowledged that it is aware of the situation and that the family is receiving consular support, reports RTE.

Parish priest for Ballindaggin, Caim, and Kiltealy in County Wexford, Fr. Jim Fegan, stated on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland that “hearts are broken” as a result of the tragedy.

“When tragedy like this strikes in any of our families, it just shows us really how fragile life really is and how in seconds everything can change, and lives are turned upside down,” he said, reports RTE.
