Denis Naughten TD says public is being deceived by Government about Irish Water legislation

The behind the scenes, cloak and dagger stuff involving Irish Water rages on.

Independent TD Denis Naughten says that the Fine Gael-Labour coalition has moved to refuse a request for a binding public vote before Irish Water can be sold off, i.e. privatized.

According to Naughten, the Government has voted against a motion which would have required the coalition to actually honour the results of any public vote on the matter. Such covert move essentially means that though a public vote would be required should Irish Water ever be put in the market, the Government can choose to ignore the outcome of such vote and sell Irish Water when and if it suits them.

The TD added that the Government is deceiving the public by telling them that Irish Water is, and will be, safe in public hands.
